Setting up email alias forwarding (for Email account)

From: https://community.office365.com/en-us/w/exchange/how-to-forward-email-in-office-365

First and foremost, it there are two main categories of forwarding you'll need to pick from:

Option 1: Forwarding an Office 365 mailbox - this scenario is typical when you want an Office
365 login, whether it is because you need one for another Office 365 service (like Skype for Business
(formerly known as Skype for Business (formerly known as Lync)) or SharePoint), or because you
eventually will move all your email to Office 365.
Option 2: Forwarding for a simple email address (without a mailbox) - this is beneficial when
there is no need to store any email on Office 365 for the address, and there is no reason to
create an Office 365 account.

Setting up email alias forwarding (by Group account)

From: https://community.office365.com/en-us/f/158/t/64555

Before going further, I’d like to clarify your detailed requirement.

1.There is custom domain ‘mydomain.com’ in the Office 365 tenant.

2.You prefer to have an email address ‘username@mydomain.com’ and this email address don’t relative any mailboxes. So this email address don't need license.

3.The mail, which is delivered to the address ‘username@mydomain.com’, will be delivered to external mail box like ‘username@hotmail.com’.

You can create a Distribution Group (DG) with address ‘username@mydomain.com’ and add the ‘username@hotmail.com’ to this DG. You can follow the steps below.

1.Add the ‘username@hotmail.com’ to the external contacts. After logging into Microsoft Online Portal, click manages under Exchange. Select tab ‘Users and Groups’ and click External contacts. You can add the ‘username@hotmail.com’ to the contacts. For more information, please refer the following link.
