I installed avast antivirus and scanned found two items and deleted Then:

Safari is locked up with a message from www.mac-securities.com stating that I have a phishing 
problem with a phone number to call. 

Quit the application. Force quit if necessary.
Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. ( This will prevent 
windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening

Force quit the browser and relaunch it with the shift key held down.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder’s Go menu, provide ~/Library/ as the path, and rename 
the Safari folder to Safari_old

Install Avast and scan : bingo on this one - removed the bothering stuff
