I installed avast antivirus and scanned found two items and deleted Then:

Safari is locked up with a message from www.mac-securities.com stating that I have a phishing problem with a phone number to call. Quit the application. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. ( This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening
Reported Phishing Website Ahead. Another popup then tells me to call 1-855-267-4256

Force quit the browser and relaunch it with the shift key held down. Then: Choose Go to Folder from the Finder’s Go menu, provide ~/Library/ as the path, and rename the Safari folder to Safari_old
